Cuban American National Council
The Cuban American National Council (CANC) is a nonprofit organization founded in 1974. Its mission is to provide human services "to persons in need from all racial and ethnic groups," to help "individuals to become self reliant," and to build "bridges among America’s diverse communities." [1]
Achievements CANC highlights on its website include "35,800 direct job placements," "more than 60 policy publications, including books and issue papers," "12 national conferences," and "coordination and support services for 30,000 Cuban and Haitian refugees at the U.S. Naval Base in Guantanamo, Cuba." [2]
According to the Department of Education's Office of Inspector General report on Department PR expenditures in fiscal years 2002 through 2004, CERT received $631,775 in 2004, "to establish an 'NCLB (No Child Left Behind Act) Resource Center for Hispanic Educational Progress' to provide public information, training, and technical assistance to the Hispanic community."
