The Castano case was a groundbreaking "third wave" class action lawsuit against the major American cigarette manufacturers brought in 1994 on behalf of millions of addicted smokers. The case was named for Peter Castano, who died of cancer, and was backed by an alliance of 60 lawyers for the plaintiffs. The plaintiffs charged that tobacco companies hid the facts about nicotine being addictive.
