Cambodian Women for Peace and Development (CWPD) "is a local non-government organization (NGO). CWPD has been cooperating with all involving parts including the government, NGO and private sector. CWPD’s move forward to build a peaceful nation, to contribute to improving the quality of life of Cambodian women and their families, to alleviate poverty and enhance social integration of the disadvantaged and the marginal." [1]

"The Cambodian Women for Peace and Development (CWPD) is a non-government organization, a successor of Women’s Association of Cambodia (WAC), a national machinery of Cambodia before 1993 established on 2 December 1978.

"In 1982 WAC was a member of Women International Democratic Federation. WAC began to be involved mostly in relief work with a number of international NGOs, the United Nation Children Fund (UNICEF) in 1987 and the World Food Program (WFP). WAC acted as the executing agency for the UNICEF’s Women in Development projects (WID) as well as other relief project of NGOs. These projects were emergency work and direct service delivery to women.

"In 1993 following the first general election, and the newly form Royal Government of Cambodia, WAC projects were absorbed into the National Program of Secretariat of State for Women’s Affairs (SSWA). As the above historic back ground demonstrated, the Women’s Association of Cambodia came together on 5 April 1999, and held a congress of almost 700 members and including national and international observers. The Association reconstructed itself and changed the name to Cambodian Women for Peace and Development (CWPD) with 17 members elected for Board of Directors to over-see the programs and activities."
