"Dame Bridget Ogilvie is one of the UK's leading medical scientists. As a past Director of the Wellcome Trust at the time it was turning its attention to "public engagement with science" her determination and hard work helped to make it a global leader in supporting this field. In that role she also oversaw the first major grant from the WT to the British Science Association.

"Since her retirement, Dame Bridget Ogilvie has continued to play a significant role in public engagement with science and science in education. As both a trustee of the Science Museum and chair of the AstraZeneca science teaching trust, she was also chair of COPUS, the former committee on the public understanding of science and Techniquest. In the 1996 New Year Honours List, Dr Ogilvie was made a Dame Commander of the British Empire and in 2003 became a Fellow of the Royal Society." [1]
