"Along with his brother, Sean, Brendan founded PeacePlayers International (formerly Playing for Peace) in 2001. Over the past seven years, PeacePlayers International has worked with over 45,000 children in Northern Ireland, South Africa, Cyprus, New Orleans and the Middle East. PeacePlayers International has been featured by The Today Show, by an Emmy Award®-winning piece on CBS News Sunday Morning, CNN, BBC, ESPN, Washington Post, Sports Illustrated, Parade and other media outlets. In July 2007, two PeacePlayers International – Northern Ireland leaders were awarded the prestigious Arthur Ashe Courage Award at the 2007 ESPY Awards, joining such past winners as Muhammad Ali, Pat Tillman and Jim Valvano.

"In February 2008, Brendan and Sean were awarded the prestigious Laureus Sport for Good Award, which honors individuals who make a contribution to society through sport, at the ninth annual Laureus World Sports Awards in St. Petersburg, Russia. Past winners of this award include: Eunice Kennedy Shriver, Kip Keino and Arnold Schwarzenegger.

"In October 2007, Brendan was recognized as one of “The 100 Most Influential Sports Educators in America” by the Institute of International Sport, which also recognized Andre Agassi, Anita DeFrantz, Jackie Joyner-Kersee, Billie Jean King, Mike Krzyzewski and Tiger Woods.

"In December 2004, Brendan was named Top 100 Irish-Americans by Irish America. In December 2005, Brendan and Sean were recognized as “Washingtonians of the Year” by Washingtonian magazine.

"On April 1, 2006, former United States President Bill Clinton recognized Brendan at a press conference announcing plans for the 2006 Clinton Global Initiative. President Clinton spoke in detail about PeacePlayers International’s project in Israel and the West Bank, applauding the organization’s efforts to “promote understanding, tolerance and peace among Jewish, Israeli Arab, and Palestinian youth.” In 2008, President Clinton cited the work of PeacePlayers International in Giving: How Each of Us Can Change the World.

"Brendan was a panelist at the second Magglingen Conference on Sport and Development in Magglingen, Switzerland in December 2005, where he delivered a position paper on “Education, Training and Capacity-Building Strategies” in sport for development projects.

"Brendan is a 1996 graduate of Colgate University where he majored in Philosophy and Religion and played basketball." [1]
