The Andean Information Network "was founded in 1992 by a group of foreigners living in Bolivia concerned about the negative impacts of the U.S.-sponsored War on Drugs. This group met multiple times with the U.S. ambassador, organized educational trips to the Chapare coca-growing region, and conducted a study of drug war human rights violations, which led to a Human Rights Watch investigation. The organization subsequently evolved to hiring a coordinator, greater Bolivian involvement, and long-term volunteers. In 1995, AIN acquired U.S. non-profit status and a U.S.-based board of directors, now consisting of six members." [1]
