Two of the tobacco industry's scientific lobbyists in Asia, Malinee Wongphanich and Benito Reverente created this fairly temporary pseudo-scientific organisation. Both of them had been President of the AAOH.

Since they were still both prominent in the Asian Association for Occupational Health (AAOH) they persuaded this legitimate organisation to create a fake front group as a committee. It is not known whether the AAOH knew that this was all being funded by Philip Morris for the tobacco industry. It was called the Standing Committee on Indoor Air (SCIA) -- hence the name AAOH SCIA.

The AAOH may have objected or reacted to being used by the tobacco industry because the SCIA didn't last long, and the work of acting as a scientific front in South East Asia for the tobacco industry was transferred to the Asian Regional Tobacco Industry Science Team which was known by the acronym ARTIST.
