Winston Lord

Winston Lord is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations From 1977 to 1985, Lord was president of that organization.

Lord served as U.S. Ambassador to China 1985-89 during the Ronald Reagan administration. Under William Jefferson Clinton, Lord served as Assistant Secretary of State for Asian and Pacific Affairs. He is U.S. Representative to the United Nations Human Rights Commission.

Winston Lord is married to Bette Bao Lord. His mother is Mary Pillsbury Lord. From 1973 to 1977, he was Director of the Policy Planning Staff in the State Department. He has also served in the U.S. Government as Special Assistant to the National Security Advisor (1970- 73), on the National Security Council staff (1969-70), and on the Policy Planning Staff in International Security Affairs at the Defense Department (1967-69).

He graduated from Yale University in 1959. Born August 14, 1937.

His son is Winston Bao Lord.
