Smoker rituals comprise behavior that the smoker brings to the cigarette: complex and deeply meaningful "ceremonies" that he develops over time as "his way of smoking." These rituals include "presmoke rituals" associated with lighting the cigarette (tapping the cigarette pack prior to opening it, opening it at the same end each time) and "insmoke rituals" associated with smoking (First puff is a long puff, blowing cigarette out of one corner of the mouth, using a favorite ashtray). For some smokers, rituals include the use of various smoking paraphernalia.
