Biographical Information
"H. Jeffrey Leonard is the co-founder and President & CEO of the Global Environment Fund (GEF), a private equity firm dedicated exclusively to investments worldwide in the energy, environment and related sectors. Founded in 1990, today, GEF has approximately US$1 billion in aggregate capital under management. GEF is headquartered in Chevy Chase, M.D., and maintains affiliates in Beijing, Budapest, Istanbul, Johannesburg, Mumbai and Sao Paulo.
"Since GEF’s inception, Mr. Leonard has led emerging markets private equity investments in the clean technology, energy, water treatment, consumer products, healthcare and forestry sectors. He also serves as Managing Partner of GEF’s U.S. growth equity investment team, and chairs the investment committees of GEF emerging markets, U.S. growth, and timberlands funds. He has served on the Board of Directors of the Emerging Markets Private Equity Association (EMPEA) since 2005, and was previously co-chair of the Advisory Board for the Clean Technology Venture Network. He served on the Board of the National Cooperative Bank from 2002-2008, as well as a number of past and present GEF portfolio companies.

He is the chairman of the Board of The Washington Monthly and City Year (Washington, D.C.), as well as a founding board member of the National Council for Science and the Environment, and Beacon House Community Ministry, a not-for-profit organization dedicated to improving the lives of children and their families in Washington, D.C."
