Helen Garnett was an occasional tobacco 'helper' in Asia, who worked as a consultant through the University of Wollongong, which is just south of Sydney, Australia. She is grouped in the literature along with the newly recruited Asian WhiteCoats in 1989, but she does not appear to be consistently a WhiteCoat herself.

WhiteCoats were usually academics who could claim to be 'independent scientists' expressing their own opinions; while, in fact they were undercover lobbyists, disinformation experts, and scientific influence peddlers for the tobacco industry. They were paid to attend and provide an industry viewpoint at scientific meetings, conferences, media briefings, etc. and act as witnesses in legal cases.
