"Currently President Emeritus of the J. Paul Getty Trust, Mr. Williams served as its President from 1981 until 1998. Under his leadership, the Getty Center in Los Angeles was created, and the smaller Getty Museum was transformed into a multifaceted institution.

"Mr. Williams has received honorary degrees from Johns Hopkins University, Occidental College and California State University, Northridge, and he is a recipient of the UCLA Medal, his alma mater’s highest honor. In 1996, the French Government awarded him the title of Officer dans L’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres." [1]
