Professor Don Aitkin describes himself in a biographical note as a "historian and political scientist."[1]
The biographical note states that he "has been Chairman of the Australian Research Grants Committee, the National Research Fellowships Committee and the Australian Research Council, a member of the Australian Science and Technology Council, the Primary Industry and Energy Research Council, and of a number of other research and science bodies. Most recently he served as Chairman of the Multidisciplinary Assessment Committee of the Canada Foundation for Innovation."[1]
