David R. Jones "has been President and Chief Executive Officer of the Community Service Society of New York since 1986. For more than a century and a half, the Community Service Society has used direct service, research, advocacy, and litigation to alleviate the effects of poverty, focusing on the areas of health care, income security, affordable housing, public education, and volunteerism.

"The Community Service Society is the central coordinating agency and fiscal conduit for the Managed Care Consumer Assistance Program, which educates and assists New Yorkers on the use of all managed care systems. CSS's Retired and Senior Volunteer Program is the country's largest volunteer program for adults 55 and older and serves as a model for like organizations throughout the U.S. and world. Mr. Jones' column, "The Urban Agenda," which appears bi-weekly in the Amsterdam News , and his cable television program of the same name, serve to educate the public and government officials on issues of importance to minority and poor communities in New York City.

"Prior to joining CSS, Mr. Jones served as Executive Director of the New York City Youth Bureau from 1983 to 1986, and as Special Advisor to Mayor Koch from 1979 to 1983. Mr. Jones was a member of the transition committee of New York's mayor-elect Michael Bloomberg.

"Mr. Jones is a member of the Advisory Board of the New York State Senate Medicaid Reform Task Force. He was vice chairman of the advisory board of the New York City Independent Budget Office and has served on the executive committee of the Upper Manhattan Empowerment Zone. From 1996-2000, he was Chairman of the Board of Carver Federal Savings Bank, the largest African-American managed bank in the nation. He is a member of the board of the Independence Savings Bank Foundation. He served on the board of directors of the New York City Health and Hospitals Corporation from 1993 to 1998 and is a member of the board of directors of the Puerto Rican Legal Defense and Education Fund.

"Mr. Jones serves as a trustee of the New-York Historical Society and as board member of the Prospect Park Alliance. He is vice chairman of the National Committee for Responsive Philanthropy and a member of the board of trustees of the Wildlife Conservation Society. He served on the board of the New York Foundation from 1998 to 2003.

"Mr. Jones is a member of the advisory board of the School of Public Affairs of Baruch College. He served for 12 years on the board of trustees of Wesleyan University and is now a Trustee Emeritus...

"Mr. Jones is a member of the New York State and Federal Bars. He is married to Dr. Valerie King, a clinical psychologist. They have two children." [1]
